Email sent to parents on Sunday, March 30th.
Hi Girls on the Run Parents!
This email is a bit long, but it has A LOT of important information and dates. Please read through it all. Thank you!
Below is the March Newsletter from the Girls on the Run - KC organization. Please specifically read about the Season Ending 5k Event on Sunday, May 18th, race starting at 8:00am, we need to arrive by 7:00am. Your girls are already registered, but we want to be sure each girl has a running partner, so the running partner will need to register (the link to register is below). This is the big celebration of all the girl's hard work through the season, we would love it for every girl to participate. If you are having difficulty finding a running partner for your daughter OR transportation is a problem, PLEASE contact me to let me know. I have various ways we can support you and your family!
Exciting news! Mark your calendars for Monday, April 28th - 5:15 - 5:45. Parents and their Girls on the Run daughter are invited to attend a 30 minute presentation: "The Confidence Counts Movement" given by Samantha Jo Bowers. We will have practice as usual this day, if you RSVP to attend, the girls will meet their parent(s) in the library for the presentation to start at 5:15. The RSVP form will be coming home in the next few weeks.
"Samantha Jo Bowers is the reigning Miss Missouri Teen USA. She enjoys volunteering her time with charities like Hope House, the Ronald McDonald House, and Warriors for Ross. She travels to schools and other groups of youth, where she speaks on the importance of healthy relationships, self respect, and self esteem through her campaign called "The Confidence Counts Movement". Samantha hopes to inspire young people to dream big, feel confident with themselves, and to never doubt their abilities. She will be traveling to the Bahamas this August to compete for the title of Miss Teen USA."
Also, be sure your calendars are marked for Friday, May 2. This date is important for two reasons. First, this is a make-up practice from when we missed due to the snow day, so we will have practice from 3:45 - 5:00. Second, this is also our Practice 5k starting at 5:30. The Practice 5k will start at Memorial Park behind our school. The 5k route will be provided as we get closer to the event. Our goal is to have every Girls on the Run girl participate as it will prepare them for the end of the season 5k. We are working on a way to get Shull's Girls on the Run team to participate with us for the practice 5k as well. We would love as many family and friends to come support the girls. The RSVP for this event will also be coming in the next few weeks.
I know the coaches have been having fun and we hope your daughter has been too! Don't forget you have the parent guides with discussion questions that relate to each of our lessons at practice. This is a great way to carry on the conversations at home. If you didn't receive a parent guide and would like one, please let me know.
I hope your girls are enjoying being a part of this program. I would love your feedback, if you have any questions or concerns, comments or suggestions, please feel free to email me back and let me know. This is our first year participating and I would love to hear your opinion.
