Dear Girls on the Run Parents/Guardians,
This week's topics are standing up for ourselves and gossip. In Lesson 12, the girls learn how to assert themselves in a healthy manner. We discuss how ignoring a problem doesn’t always resolve an uncomfortable situation. Through different activities we will practice using “I statements” to express our feelings.
In Lesson 13, the girls learn about the hurtful consequences of gossiping. We discuss how gossiping hurts both the person about whom the gossip is being spread and the person spreading it.
Important Notes
Tomorrow, Wednesday April 15th we have our guest speaker. This will take place in the RE library immediately following practice at 5:15 - 6:00. You are welcome to join us in the library for the speaker or pick your daughter up at 6:00. We hope we get lots of girls to stay to hear this positive message. Speaker Info: Maryn White - She is the reigning National American Miss Missouri Jr Teen AND International Junior Miss Missouri Jr Teen. Her platform in pageants encourages young girls to pursue futures in STEM careers....Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Practice 5k
We will be having our practice 5k on Monday, April 27 at 4:15. We would love for you and anyone else to come support your daughter. You can run/walk with her or cheer her on from the sidelines. You can see the route on the attached map. The 5k route starts on the trail at Memorial Park, goes around Recreation Park and ends back where we started on the trail at Memorial park.

Talk with your Girl on the Run…
1. What is gossip?
2. Let’s come up with a noise we can use (loud honk, whistle) when we hear gossip or catch ourselves gossiping!
3. What does it mean to stand up for ourselves?
4. Let’s each think of and share a time when we could have used “I statements” (“I feel”, “When you”, “Because” and “I would like for you to”) to stand up for ourselves.
