We are very excited to announce the Wayside Waifs’ “No More BULLIES!” Humane Education Program coming to Raymore Elementary again this year!
Third grade: September 21 - 25
Fourth grade: December 7 - 11
*Please let the school know ASAP if your child has an allergy to dogs. Thank you!
Wayside Waifs’ Humane Education Program, “No More BULLIES” provides a unique Violence Prevention curriculum for school Grades 3 through 5. Incorporating the expertise of professional educators, counselors and animal behaviorists, the curriculum combines character education with a strong anti-violence message.
The program gives children the skill set to solve problems in a loving, caring and productive way for all involved and the courage to stand up for themselves and those who are weaker.
The core values and messages taught include: compassion, responsibility, self-control, integrity, respect, self-respect, courage, justice, humane, and safety around dogs.
Why Teach This Program?
Studies show there is a strong relationship between a child’s awareness of the proper way to treat animals and that child’s ability as an adult to relate humanely not only to animals, but also to society as a whole. Children will also learn about animal shelters and the hope they bring to each community. This program is specifically designed to integrate the practice for public education benchmarks, standards and statewide goals into each class session.
How the Program Is Taught
The program includes five, one-hour lessons for each of the grade levels.
Lessons include:
Lesson One: Safety Around Dogs
Lesson Two: Responsibility, Humane, Respect & Self-Respect
Lesson Three: Compassion
Lesson Four: Self Control and Integrity
Lesson Five: Final - You CAN Change The World
Wayside Waifs’ Humane Education Director, Jo Dean Hearn, created and wrote “No More BULLIES!” and has personally taught the curriculum to more than 8,000 children during the past five years."Teachers rave about the “No More BULLIES!” program and the powerful impact is has on students,” states Jo Dean. “We know that children who bully and hurt animals frequently grow up to be people who hurt people and can end up as violent offenders.”
