Dear GOTR parent/guardian,
In Lesson 16, the girls continued to build their confidence by completing a practice 5K! It was a fun way to show the girls they can set a goal and accomplish it. We were also able to discuss areas of improvement to work on before the season-ending 5K. Ask your girl to show you the certificate she received for completing the practice 5K!
Wednesday's lesson starts our discussion on the concept of community! In Lesson 19, the girls learn about different kinds of communities and the role they play in their own community. At the end of the lesson, we will discuss what project the GOTR team will do to impact our community! We will be doing a sock drive to support Blair's Foster Socks http://blairsfostersocks.org/ Monday during practice we will have Blair's mom coming to talk with the girls more about this organization.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Final 5K: The GOTR 5K that will end our season will be on Sunday, May 17th at 8am at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, KS. Girls are encouraged to arrive at 6:45am to enjoy the Fun Zone activities that include getting their hair colored by hair spray, dancing, etc. We will meet as a group at 7:30am in Team Village so we can run together. Team Village is set up in the parking lot with flags that have our school name. Your daughter is already registered, the fee for this 5K was incorporated into the cost of signing your daughter up for the program so no additional money will be required. All families are more than welcome to register for the 5K and run with us! You can register for the 5K by going to the Girls on the Run-Kansas City website: www.gotrkc.org.
Final 5K Running Buddy: Each girl will need an adult running buddy to run in the Final 5K. The adult running buddy will need to register for the 5K. This can be a family member, family friend, etc. Please email and let me know if your daughter needs a running buddy. We can assign one of our eight coaches to be her running buddy or recruit other Raymore staff members. Please let me know by next Wednesday, May 6.
Pictures from practice - Click this link: GOTR Pictures to view a few pictures from our practices. I have added more pictures. I would love any pictures from our practice 5K. Please email them to me and I can add them to our website page.
Thank you!! Thank you to all those who were able to come to the Practice 5K and help. It was a great success. All the coaches are so proud of the girls, each one finished!!! we wouldn't have been able to make it as special as it was without all your help. Thank you so much very much!!! I know the girls enjoyed it all. It was priceless seeing the girls excitement as they ran through finish line and say all their supporters.
Talk with your Girl on the Run…
1. How did your first chance to try and run a whole 5K go?
2. Are you planning to do anything differently at the final 5K event?
3. What is a community?
4. Let’s each share an issue we care deeply about with one another!
